Your blog asplode...

Your blog asplode…

By Robert Janelle on March 29, 2008

Upgraded to the new version of Wordpress (2.5) and while the administrative controls look really good now…it sorta broke the physical blog…hence the design might be a little on the messy side until I fix it.
Blah, good times. Good times.

My ironic purchase of the latest issue of Wired

By Robert Janelle on February 26, 2008

I picked up the March issue of Wired today to read editor-in-chief Chris Anderson’s feature on the so-called “freeconomy” that’s been moving a long steadily as the Internet has become more popular: free music downloads, reading newspapers for free online, free e-mail from various web mail providers, et cetera.
The purchase was ironic since I had [...]

The Orange Box: How to kill a long weekend…

By Robert Janelle on February 17, 2008

Apparently it’s Sunday and I’m not sure where the rest of my weekend went. I think it has something to do with having purchased The Orange Box on Friday.
I’m pretty late to the part on this one (It came out mid-2007) but it’s mine now and it’s taken over.
See, The Orange Box [...]

I Can Has Cheezburger – now with social network

By Robert Janelle on January 17, 2008

It seems it’s no longer possible to be taken seriously as a web site unless you’ve got some kind of social network attached. Case in point: I Can Has Cheezburger has launched a beta version of it’s own social network.
Now along with browsing pictures of cats with funny captions and commenting on them using [...]

Lessons from Ottawa BarCamp 4

Lessons from Ottawa BarCamp 4

By Robert Janelle on November 18, 2007

Ottawa BarCamp 4 was my first time attending the “open source” conference and let me say, it was great being around such a large group of uber-geeks. I swear, I’ve never seen so many Moleskine notebooks in one place.
That said, I learned some scary stuff from the seminars.
Alec Saunders demonstrated how Facebook has [...]

My problem with Facebook

My problem with Facebook

By Robert Janelle on November 13, 2007

It seems every time I meet a new acquaintance, the last thing they ask before parting ways is, “Do you have Facebook? You should add me!”
Now, I don’t know if this has officially replaced the more customary exchange of business cards but my stock response is usually, “Facebook? Eww!”
But as I call myself a technology [...]

I HATE WORD PROCESSORS!!

By Robert Janelle on September 19, 2007

Seriously, Word, Wordperfect, even OpenOffice…they can all die in a fire!
All I want to do is writing something, it should be simple, but no! If I say, try to make an ordered list like:
1. This is the first thing
2. This is the second thing -
Well, doesn’t the fancy-pants word processor decide to be helpful and [...]

Dude, where’s Mars?

By Robert Janelle on August 28, 2007

So Sunday night, I’m all psyched up – Mars is supposed to be the closest to Earth that it’s ever been. At 12:30a.m Monday morning, I run out onto my balcony, where it’s supposed to be right next to the moon and I see…the moon. How disappointing.
Then yesterday I learn from the good folks [...]

Home Sweet Home

By Robert Janelle on April 28, 2007

It’s done, I’ve moved this bit of rambling to my own site.
Much as I enjoy the complete integration of everything Google, I like the endless tweaking possibilities of having my own copy of the engine. Plus, I’m on my own domain now, woot!
Of course, I’m having quite the difficult time finding a theme I’m happy [...]

Tin Foil: It’s not just for blocking satellite signals

Tin Foil: It’s not just for blocking satellite signals

By Robert Janelle on April 19, 2007

While the weather is beautiful, it is affecting my ability to get anything done. Glare! The harsh glare!
On my desktop’s monitor, it’s just annoying, having the half the screen slightly obscured by the day sphere’s rays, but then switch to laptop, oh man. Flat panel LCD monitors look great, until sunlight hits [...]
